Ben H. Winters at Indy Reads Books

October 22, 2016

This evening, New York Times Best Selling Author, Ben H. Winters, read from his smash summer hit, "Underground Airlines" and answered questions for the audience at Indy Reads Books in Indianapolis.

"Undergrounds Airlines" takes place predominately in Indianapolis, in what feels like a present day world only with the historical modification that slavery never ceased to exist. It is a mystery novel on one level, but also a societal commentary about racism in America. Ben elegantly explained his inspiration for the novel and I feel to rephrase his words would only muddle them further. Instead, I will direct your attention to Ben's website where you will find several posts detailing his research process for the novel.

Ben was previously an adjunct professor in the Butler MFA program that I now attend. I did not have the opportunity to have him for workshop or class as he left before I came on board. I did take a one time writing class with him through the Indiana Writers Center and I credit that experience as the main thing that gave me the kick in the pants to really pursue writing. For that I'll always be thankful to Ben, even though we do not know each other on a personal level and only share mutual friends in common. He is a genuinely good guy with a true enthusiasm for sharing his love of books and writing.

All of Ben's novels are on Amazon. Check them out. You won't regret it.
